Kia Ora,
Last week one of the writing tasks I did was Pobble. What I had to do was get a photo from that website and write a descriptive story around that picture. Here is the photo I used:
It was almost midnight and everyone was getting ready to leave town. The whole town was
preparing for a war, if you didn't have enough money to leave the country you would have to either
find a good hiding place or try to sneak on the plane, but the consequence is brutal if you do. The
reasoning for this was that someone had snuck into my town and stole a sacred item, unfortunately
that man was caught and executed, turns out that man was a spy and the other spies got VERY
angry and wanted to start a war with my town.
I started packing my suitcase and everything I might need to have for living in a different country for
a couple of months. I started packing my stuff, and then I could hear Mum and Dad in the living
room arguing about something. “Are you sure we should do this?,” My Mum questioned, I could see
through a crack in the door and my Mum had a look of fear on her face. My Dad looked concerned
but not as concerned as my Mum, “That's what the best option is, at least until the war is over,”.
I accidentally lean on the door too much and it makes a creaking sound, my parents look at me
“Are you alright honey?” My Mum asks. “Yeah, but… what were you guys just talking about?” My
Mum looks at my Dad it was almost as if she was using her eyes to talk to my Dad, and all of the
sudden my Mum starts bawling her eyes out, as she walks away to her bedroom my Dad walks up
to me and says with a smile on his face “It's nothing for you to worry about,” I open my mouth, just as
I was about to reply my dad gets a phone call and he tells me he has to take the call, and then tells
me to go and finish packing while he answers the call.
I finish packing an hour later, and my parents come into my room and ask if I was ready to go on the
plane, I nod in silence, and get my suitcase and help my parents with some of their stuff and we
head out into the streets, as I help put everything in the car I can see people running with their
children down the street. My parents tell me to get in the car so we can leave.
Once we arrive at the airport you can see lots of guards with weapons, they have to search
everyone and everything before they get into the airport, once it's our turn in the line, the guard
looks at me and my parents and says “Kids are they way” He points to the direction of where i need
to go, he explains that I and three other children in town will be put onto a separate plane and when
we get to the other town we can see each other again, the guard speaks into his radio and I can see
another guard come up to me, he says he is here to take me to where the children's plane is, I say
goodbyes to my parents and gives them hugs.
As I walk up to the plane, there were a couple of ladies that were standing outside of the plane,
holding a tray of cups, I walk up to them and one of them tells me to drink what's in the cup, I look
in the cup before drinking and the liquid is blue, I try not to ask questions and instead just drink the
blue liquid. I walk up the stairs and when I get on the plane I can see 3 other children. I get a seat
and I notice that everyone is spread apart. I could see four guards, 2 down my end of the plane,
and 2 guards down the other end of the plane. The plane starts and I start to get a bit dizzy, I look
around and see that the other kids passed out in their seats. My eyesight goes a bit fuzzy “This is
not good” I mutter under my breath while I can feel myself falling.
As I start to wake up I can hear the sounds of waves crashing against each other, and seagulls
flying around. I open my eyes to find that I'm lying in the sand at a beach. I look behind me and see
lots of trees, I start to panic, looking around for anyone else, but nobody is around, I start to call out
“Hello! Is anyone there?” I can hear a faint voice calling out saying “I'm here!”. “Where are you?” Icall out while running after the voice “I'm coming just stay where you are,” The voice is not so faint
anymore and I can hear the voice of a girl saying “I can see you, turn around” As i turn around all I
could see was the ocean “No, the other way” Once I turned the other way I could see a face poking
out of the bushes. “Who are you?” I ask while walking towards the girl. “I'm Maya, who are you?”
“Im Lexi,” She gets out of the bushes and we start walking and trying to get to know each other.
While walking Maya and I start to wonder if we should go into the jungle and see if it might help us
figure out why we are stranded on the island and how to get off the island and get back to our
parents. We start walking into the jungle and as soon as we do it's a whole different environment,
trees everywhere, vines, the greenest grass you will ever find, that is if you can make your way to
this island. There were lots of birds flying around, from a range of colours.
I look straight ahead and I can see smoke, and it looks like there's tents and some people around.“Maya, there's some people over there” Maya looks over there “It looks like a tribe of some sort, lets
go and meet them!” “No, They could be dangerous, we don't know who they are, what they're like,
they might want to harm us!” Maya ignores me and keeps walking towards them.
Once we are over to the tribe Maya goes up to an old lady and says “Hello ma’am, me and my
friend need some help,” The lady freezes and shouts “OUTSIDERS!” Everyone looks at Maya and
I and starts going hysterical. Everybody starts screaming and running, and packing stuff up as if we
were going to murder them. I look at Maya and say “Now do you see why I didn't want us to come over
here?” She just rolled her eyes at me and proceeded to go and ask people for help. She goes up to
a lady with long black hair, with beguiling eyes, as blue as the sky. She turns around and looks at us
for a couple seconds and asks what we need. I run up to her and explain our situation and add the fact
that “We don’t want to hurt anyone here,”
The lady grabs a conch shell and blows into it, everybody stops running and screams, the lady
yells at the top of her lungs “They don’t want to hurt us! They are in the same situation as us,”
Maya and I look at one another looking very confused. A young looking boy yells “How do we
know it's not another test?,”. “Test?” Maya says with confusion in her voice. “We’ve had many tests
over the years, it's a ‘game’ that the government organized and it all began with a war, and over
the years we’ve had so many test beginning with snakes, bombs, thunderstorms, hurricanes
everything like that, it all started with 4 children, 2 boys, and 2 girls named Penelope, Elias,
Ronan, and Apollo dating back to 1823, it's a way that the government thought of to keep the
population of the children in the town slightly down and the fact that it was a agreement over two
towns, every year they re-name the town it was firstly called taxila, and I can’t even imagine whats
its called now,”. “It's called the Standely, and you said that there were four children. What happens
to the other two?” I ask. “We don’t know we usually find their bodys lying on the shore,” Another
man says to me. “They always have a particular mark on them with blue lips.” The young lady says
to me. I look at Maya with a look of grief on my face, and then all of the sudden we hear a scream
following with someone shouting “Help me!”
Everyone goes dead silent and looks at one another. We ran out of the jungle and see two boys on
the shore, one laying down and the other one looking like he was struggling to breathe. Standing
behind them was a woman wearing fancy clothes, mostly white and black clothes, with heels and
standing beside her were two men wearing black clothes with big mussels both on them holding
needles and guns. I looked at the lady with the fancy clothes for a second and I knew her from
somewhere, then I remembered that she was the mayor of our town. “Joane Hunter” I say softly,
“Who?’’ Maya asks, “The mayor of our town of course!”. Another child comes in front of us and
screams. The men and Mayor holding needles looked at us and started running after us. We all
turned around to run but we were surrounded by more men holding needles. They grab Maya and
I and stick the needle in us. There was more blue liquid. I tried to fight back but it's too late, I could
feel myself falling again.
I woke up in a hospital room, with the Mayor standing over me and explaining to me what had
happened. “The plane crashed and we fell into the ocean,” I look at her for a couple of seconds and
see two men standing outside of the hospital room, “That's the same men from-'' I say but the mayor
buts in and says “we've put you on medication that will help give back your memory but would have
also given you strange dreams while you were asleep, so trust me whatever you saw didn't
happen" I nod slowly and the mayor walks away and closes the door behind her, I could hear the
door lock, I get out of the hospital bed and try to unlock the door, but it won't budge. I go back to my
bed wondering if what she said was true, but I know what I saw and I know what happened. I look
at the floor and a tear comes down my face and I spot a bobby pin, under a table. I grab it and put it
in the lock, at first the door wouldn't budge but after a couple of tries, I hear the door unlock, I open
the door and see one of the strong men standing outside of the door.I try to get past him and call for
help but before I could. He pushes me on the ground and I hit my head against the floor causing me
to get knocked out.
When I woke up I was expecting to wake up in the hospital room, but I was back on the island. I
could see the smoke from the fire again, so I decided to walk back into the jungle and explained
what had happened and a way that we could possibly get off the island, but when I walked to where
the fire was everyone was gone and everything was destroyed, I could see another child crying in
one of the broken tents, he had cuts and bruises all over him, I ask him if he’s alright he looks at me
and says “Look behind you” I turn around and nobody was there. I turned around and he was gone.
I start to call out “Hello? Where did you go? Come back!” I fall to my knees accepting my fate. A
tear comes running down my check “I'm going to be here forever” I say to myself. Just then I hear
other children screaming for help.
